Environment and Climate Change Canada has lifted the special air quality statement for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, ending a brief period of wildfire smoke warnings over the weekend.
The statement was issued late Saturday night and dropped Sunday evening after conditions improved.
With the smoke dissipated and skies cleared, Airdrie is now bracing for a short burst of heat followed by a string of cooler, unsettled days.
On Monday, the forecast calls for sunshine, a high of 27, and a UV index of 8—classified as very high. Winds from the north at 20 km/h, gusting to 40, are expected by morning. Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear with a low of plus 3.
Tuesday and Wednesday will stay sunny, but cooler, with highs of 22 on both days and overnight lows between 3 and 4.
By Thursday, the pattern shifts to cloud and moisture. Airdrie faces a 60 per cent chance of showers Thursday and Friday, with daytime highs falling to 20 and then 18. Showers are expected to continue into Friday night, followed by a mix of sun and cloud Saturday and a high of 18.
Rocky View County remains under a full fire ban, and the City of Airdrie continues to enforce a fire advisory, first issued May 30.
