The Completely Branded RentPro Weyburn Razorbacks faced a tough challenge Saturday night as they hosted the high-flying Swift Current Wolverines in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. Despite some offensive sparks from the home side, the Wolverines’ relentless attack proved too much, handing the Razorbacks a lopsided 22-7 defeat.
The teams opened the scoring midway through the first period, with Weyburn’s Sam Borschowa finishing a feed from Connor Clay to even the game after a shorthanded tally by Swift Current's Carter Lamotte. However, the Wolverines responded in force, racking up seven unanswered goals before the end of the frame to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
The Razorbacks showed signs of life in the second period, with Nash Hignett and Ryder Hignett finding the back of the net, and Jack Missal adding another late. But Swift Current continued to dominate possession and scoring, netting nine goals in the middle frame alone. Isaac Froese and Shane Cornelson each added multiple goals, with Cornelson recording a hat trick and several assists.
In the third, the Wolverines padded their lead further with tallies from Amy Brown, Lamotte, and Brady Simpson, who finished with a four-goal night. Weyburn answered with three more goals, including a second from Borschowa and a late effort from Brody Morrice, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap.
The Razorbacks will look to regroup quickly, as they hit the road to take on the Regina Chaos this Wednesday.
