Kenneth Mervyn Vicars

Peacefully on June 6, 2025, Kenneth “Ken” Vicars passed away with his daughter by his side at Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 96 years.

Dad leaves to mourn his children Brett (Carol) and Wendy (Scott) Webb, grandchildren Nathan, Bryant (Ali) and Randi (Aaron), great-grandchildren Ryland, Trenten, Easton, and Lexi, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ken was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, son Lance, parents Alan and Ethel, in-laws Wesley and Thelma, and siblings of six sisters and three brothers.

Dad was born July 30, 1928, in Dauphin MB, son of Allan and Ethel, they later moved to Winnipeg. He went to school at Daniel McIntyre, after school dad worked at a few jobs. Dad met the love of his life Lorraine well working at Powell Equipment. They married on July 3, 1954, in Winnipeg, lived there a few years together than moved to BC, where their first son Lance was born April 20, 1958. After they moved back to Winnipeg their second son Brett was born October 9, 1961. Then came along their daughter Wendy born February 24, 1966. Ken and Lori moved their family to Poplar Point where they lived for over 34 years.

Dad was an incredible athlete from soccer to baseball and even curling, he did them all well, but baseball was his passion. In his younger years he and his brother Jack played on many teams in Winnipeg winning several championships. He also won batting awards in his later years he played in the liniment league in Portage la Prairie. He played on the Olympenes and Winter Greens, he just loved playing he still could hit a ball far and run those bases like a rabbit. Dad also played on the Masters slow pitch team where they played tournaments in Flin Flon and Killarney. They won the Westman Trophy and also won a trophy with a team in Mesa Arizona.

Dad also loved his garden, and I mean a massive garden. Dad and mom were also members of the Alliance Church in Poplar Point and enjoyed helping at the Rink.
One of Dads biggest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When dad’s health got worse, he had lots of doctor’s appointments, his granddaughter Randi who lived in Winnipeg would make sure he would get to his appointments. And after they would enjoy a Tim Hortons and a treat.

The family would like to thank Lions Prairie Manor for all the care they have giving to him over the last three years. You all meant see much to him. Dad loved to laugh and tease, he always said if can't laugh at yourself than who can you laugh at.

A private family graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

As an expression of sympathy if friends so wish donations can be made in Ken’s memory to the Kidney Foundation MB Branch, Unit 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4 or Diabetes Canada (Manitoba), 401-1 Wesley Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4C6.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
