The cities of Weyburn and Estevan are close neighbours, counting on one another when it matters most. However, even the friendliest of alliances have rivalries.

This was demonstrated this past week, as the communities counted down to the awarding of the Golden Garbage Can.

A battle of wits on Facebook began with some digital editing on behalf of the City of Estevan, as they fantasized about bringing home the Can.

This was reposted by the City of Weyburn with the caption "BREAKING NEWS: City of Estevan releases highly edited 'photo evidence' in desperate bid for Golden Garbage Can. #FakeBins"

This led to councillor Kellie Sidloski getting somewhat possessive over the coveted Golden Garbage Can.

However, it seemed her caution may not have been in vain, as an email sent to Sidloski by the city's Communications Coordinator, Paige Tenbult, was leaked, revealing a suspected plot to steal the can.

From there, the trash talk got real, as Estevan City Councillor Kirsten Walliser threw some less-than-subtle shade before a visit to Weyburn.

Weyburn came back, teaming up with the Chamber of Commerce to push the community onward, and showing off the work put in so far.

Estevan came back, sporting their own confidence.

Only a day later, someone from Estevan was spotted on Weyburn turf, displaying a #TeamEstevan sign.

Weyburn was quick to fire back, as Weyburn's own Mayor Jeff Richards scouted out Estevan's progress.

The long battle for the Golden Garbage Can ends today. Will it remain at home in Weyburn, or, after over 15 years make its way to Estevan? We'll find out today.
