It was a rough weekend for the Moose Jaw Miller Express, as their three-game winning streak came to an end with one win and two losses.
The streak ended Friday night at Ross Wells Park when the Saskatoon Berries earned a convincing 22-4 win over the Miller Express.
Moose Jaw bounced back Saturday night at Ross Wells Park with a 7-2 victory over the Brooks Bombers.
After Brooks took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, Moose Jaw responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Gustavo Soto hit a double to score Tanner DeGrazia, then scored himself on a passed ball. Thomas Soto crossed the plate for the third run off a William Edwards double.
The Miller Express added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Gustavo Soto hit another double to drive in Eduardo Saenz and DeGrazia.
They rounded out the scoring in the bottom of the seventh. Austin Gurney hit a fielder’s choice to score Thomas Soto, and Jackson Yeager followed with a single to bring Gurney home. Nathan Yunick picked up the win on the mound.
Moose Jaw wrapped up the weekend with a 10-2 loss to the Bombers on Sunday afternoon at Ross Wells Park.
It wasn’t the start the Miller Express were hoping for, giving up seven runs in the top of the first inning. Brooks added a single run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to make it 10-0.
Moose Jaw’s two runs came in the bottom of the eighth. Edwards hit a double to score Ben Waliczek, and Yeager singled to score Thomas Soto.
The Miller Express are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Weyburn to face the Beavers.
