A fire restriction has been issued for Cochrane due to forecasted hot, windy weather and dry grass conditions.

Cochrane Fire Services says the fire danger is high and outdoor fires can start and spread rapidly under current conditions.

The following are NOT allowed when fire hazard levels are at the restriction level (orange): 

  • open fire permits
  • backyard fire pits
  • charcoal briquette barbecue

This means the use of designated town fire pits — including those in Mitford Park, Riverfront Park and Cochrane Ranche — are prohibited.

The following remain permitted under the restriction:

  • Propane and natural gas barbecues and fire pits

  • Outdoor fireplaces, chimineas and fornos ovens

  • Indoor wood-burning fireplaces

  • Pellet stoves and smokers

  • Backyard fire pits

  • Charcoal briquette barbecues
