A longer meeting for Weyburn City Council on Monday night saw the proclamation of Pride Week in Weyburn for June 15th to 21st, with a flag-raising being held on Monday, June 16th.

Council also approved a home-based business application, a request to purchase land, and an updated Weyburn Builds Program.

Randolph Schiller's request to operate a financial service out of residence, at 631 Staveley Crescent was approved with conditions to comply with home-based business occupation standards.

Council approved an offer to purchase from Dustin and Sarah Satre for a portion of Municipal Land north of Elgin Street for the price of $15,000. The purpose is to extend the Satres' current rear yard to allow the building of a concrete pad for a family sports court.

Building Official Patrick Grunert presented Council with an explanation of a proposed merger of two residential development incentive programs. The approved recommendation will have the Show Home Incentive Program and the existing Weyburn Builds program, with tax abatements increased to 100 percent for three years on new builds.

Grunert said the paperwork will be similar, but the program will be streamlined, making it easier for everyone to access.

"Now we only are going to have the one program, so everybody's kind of applying for the same program just at different levels throughout the program," he explained. "That's sort of the best part about it, I think, is that's how it streamlines it for administration, but also makes it a lot easier for the user in the sense that they only have one program."

He said it applies to new builds, renovations, modular homes, and anything that helps improve the look of the city.

"There's just about something for everybody in that program.

Grunet said the forms are available on the City of Weyburn's website.

"You can come to down to City Hall, too, and we have all the information here as well."
