The pickleball explosion in Swift Current was evident with some success at provincials over the weekend.
10-49 2.5 Women’s Doubles.
Corla Rokochy and Erin Boutilier won silver in 10-49 2.5 women's doubles.
For Rokochy, the pickleball experience has been a flashback to her college athletic days.
"To find a sport at this stage in life with a bad knee that I can still compete," "It felt pretty great being out there and being able to compete with people across Saskatchewan. It was almost like being back in the university days playing volleyball."
Annie Montgomery and Nickie Aumiller won gold in 3.5 60-64 women's doubles.
Montgomery also silver in women's skinny singles 3.0 60 and older.
It was an all Swift Current match-up in men's doubles 3.5 ages 10-49.
Brad Boutilier and Devin Martens won Gold in men’s double over Nick Wiebe and Alex Abrera, who earned the silver.
Kim Robertson and Gaylene Little won a bronze.
The sports has certainly made an impact in our community.
"The fact that you can play with your family," Rokochy said. "You can play at any level. Just for fun all the way up to competitive. Any age group. Men and women can play together. You can have a great time together, and there's really a low-level entry to it as all you need is a paddle."
Rokochy plans to be back gunning for gold next year.
