At the latest Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees received an update from the RVS Technology for Learning Department.
The department provides devices and technology support to approximately 29,200 students and more than 3,000 staff members.
"The department maintains up-to-date technology at the network, client and user level and is committed to ensuring these are secure and reliable through monitoring of application and system performance," shared RVS.
The school division reported that the introduction of an online support centre and ticket system during the 2024/25 school year enabled the department to respond to requests for support quickly and efficiently.
"Cybersecurity remained a top priority with changes and enhancements to RVS’s systems implemented to ensure these remain secure and minimize potential system outages."
The division's strategic plan calls for strengthening RVS's infrastructure, and this year, almost $1.5 million was set aside for more than 2,200 new devices that staff, instructors, and students can use, as well as more WIFI access points and network switches.
"Additional training and support were provided by the Educational Technology department, with topics including the responsible use of generative AI in the classroom and assistive technology."
Department employees supported in-class adoption of numerous applications that help RVS achieve its objectives of enhancing students' literacy and numeracy skills and preparing them for the future.
