The southeast corner played a leading role in the province’s most recent Crown oil and natural gas rights offering, held last Tuesday. The region accounted for more than 70 percent of the total revenue generated.

According to figures released by the Government of Saskatchewan, the June offering generated $9.13 million overall, with $6.53 million coming from 34 lease sales in the Estevan-Weyburn region alone. These leases covered a combined 3,631.86 hectares, yielding an average price of $1,798.91 per hectare, the highest regional average in the province for this offering.

Both the highest total bonus bid and per-hectare price in the entire offering came from Elk Run Resources. The company bid $2.36 million, an average of $8,102.78 per hectare, for a 291.486-hectare lease located approximately 8 kilometres southeast of Lampman. The lease lies within the Steelman Frobisher Beds Oil Pool.

Province-wide, 71 parcels covering 12,586 hectares were sold, reflecting continued interest from industry stakeholders despite broader market volatility. The Estevan-Weyburn area once again outpaced other regions in both interest and value. By contrast, the Lloydminster area generated $1.98 million, while the Kindersley and Swift Current areas accounted for just over $547,000 and $63,000, respectively.

This offering marks the second of six scheduled for the 2025-26 fiscal year, with total revenue to date reaching $21.1 million. Government officials attribute interest in these offerings to a combination of resource potential, global oil and gas market conditions, and ongoing advancements in drilling technologies.
