The journey of The Color, a prominent band hailing from Winkler, Manitoba, has been nothing short of inspiring. For years, they’ve captivated audiences not only with their distinctive sound but with their deep-rooted connection to faith, their families, and community. From humble beginnings to securing Juno Awards and chart-topping hits, the band’s evolution reflects their commitment to both their music and their message.
The exciting new sound of 'Heartbeat'
The Color's new single, Heartbeat, marks a significant milestone in their musical evolution. The track takes listeners on a sonic journey, blending powerful lyrics with a dynamic, guitar-driven sound that harkens back to their earlier music, while exploring new creative directions. "It speaks to the desire to live a life that looks like Christ," lead singer Jordan Janzen explains. The song's heart-centered lyrics reflect the band's mission to create music that resonates deeply with listeners.
Heartbeat is more than just a song; it’s a reflection of the band’s growth. The sound is more stripped back, featuring raw instruments and simpler arrangements, allowing the true talent of the band to shine. As guitarist Larry Abrams shares, “We’ve always used real instruments, but this is a different approach. It’s been a lot of fun to experiment with new sounds.”
The band’s live performances: Energy, passion, and faith
Fans who see The Color live are in for a treat. The band's live shows are known for their energy and emotional connection with the audience. While the songs may sound similar to their studio recordings, live performances feature dynamic changes, extended solos, and fresh arrangements that make each show unique. “We try our best to recreate the magic of the song, but live performances give us room to be more creative and spontaneous,” says Larry.
When it comes to their live setup, Larry’s guitar pedal board is practically legendary. With over 12 pedals, each serving a specific purpose, Larry ensures that every sound is as polished and dynamic as possible. And yes, some of those pedals even help him channel his inner Eddie Van Halen—though he’s quick to remind us that his style is his own.
You can enjoy The Color live at Winkler Harvest Festival, August 10th at the main stage.
The Color's faith-fueled music journey: Trusting God’s plan
Faith has always been a guiding force for The Color. Whether in their personal lives or their music careers, the band strives to seek God’s will in everything they do. Janzen reflects on how the band's journey has been anything but linear. “Life is messy, full of challenges, but it’s about trusting God and finding purpose in it all,” he shares.
The band also acknowledges the sacrifices involved in balancing family life, a demanding career, and their desire to continue growing in their faith. “We have children, we have wives, and we have responsibilities. But so far, it’s been great,” Janzen says. The Color remains deeply committed to their families, their faith, and the community that has supported them all along.
