The Saskatchewan Roughriders started the season off on the right foot with a 31-26 win over the Ottawa Redblacks and were recognized by the league as part of the initial edition of its weekly honour roll for 2025.

Wide receiver Samuel Emilus had an explosive start in Week 1 with 8 catches for 133 receiving yards and a touchdown and chipped in with a few blocks that aided the green and white running game. Emilus had the second highest PFF grade for Week 1 (88.9) which was only behind BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke.

Speaking of the Roughriders ground game, running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon received recognition for his efforts when he stepped in to fill the spot vacated by AJ Ouellette. The former Deleware State Hornet ended the game with a rushing and receiving touchdown and 74 combined all-purpose yards.

Offensive Lineman Jermarcus Hardrick was also selected to the honour roll. The former Blue Bomber played in his first regular season since last July when a quad injury ended his season prematurely.

Rounding the Roughriders selections is the team’s offensive line. Saskatchewan didn’t allow a single sack against Ottawa and helped the offence pick up 366 total offensive yards in the season opener.

The Roughriders will begin preparations for the first contest on the road as they travel to Hamilton to meet the Tiger-Cats on Saturday.
