One of two teenagers arrested over the weekend in Berens River is also facing a long list of charges for violent incidents earlier this year in Long Plain First Nation.
On the evening of June 7th, RCMP responded to a report of gunshots at a home in Berens River. Police say two young males showed up at a residence and one of them fired a gun at someone inside, but missed. The pair then drove off in a pickup truck.
A short time later, officers tracked the teens to another home in the community where they were found hiding in a bedroom. A loaded Glock handgun was also recovered, along with ammunition, individually packaged drugs, and a significant amount of cash. The gun was not registered in Canada, and investigators suspect it may have been smuggled into the country.

Both suspects are 15 years old and are facing a wide range of charges, including unsafe storage of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a licence/ registration, discharge of a firearm with intent, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and pointing a firearm.

One of the teens, police say, is no stranger to law enforcement. He’s already facing charges for two earlier incidents in Long Plain First Nation, dating back to January and February of this year. Those charges include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, identity fraud, and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Both teens were remanded into custody as the Berens River RCMP continues to investigate.
