Another shift in the weather this week is setting up the southeast for a few rain showers, though nothing in Environment Canada's forecast is showing anything too wet. Their current forecast has a number of chances of rain showers over the next week, with many of those shifting their expected timeframes as the week progresses.
Meteorologist Crawford Luke talks about the system that's causing both the rain to come in and smoke to hang over the southeast.
"With this wind shift that's causing the winds to come out of the north and bring the smoke down, that's a trough that's causing that. So along with that trough is a chance of showers for today. Then basically later in the week, when those winds go to the southeast, it helps blow the smoke away, but it's going to bring in some moisture with it, some higher dew points. And so that's going to help sort of maintain the cloud cover and the ongoing chance for showers into southeastern Saskatchewan."
Additionally, thunderstorms are possible throughout the week, though Luke isn't convinced it's a certainty.
"I wouldn't rule it out, but it doesn't really look like a slam dunk per se."
While southeast residents may be reminded of the intense rains we felt back in May, there's a slim chance we'll see a repeat.
Instead, Luke says we'll see intermittent showers dumping a bit of rain at a time over the week.
"I think hit or miss is probably the best way to describe it. So someone might get a couple, someone might get nothing. It might be just kind of this popcorn shower, really isolated."
Luke reminds people to take the appropriate precautions while dealing with the smoke still coming into the southeast.
