The Weyburn Salvation Army food bank relies entirely on donations as they are unable to run their own fundraisers and food drives. Now, community ministries worker for the food bank, Nicole Strickland, says they are calling on the support and generosity of the community as they run critically low on staple items.

"Right now, we are pretty much out of everything. We need pasta, pasta sauce, canned meat, canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, and brown beans."

While their stock is at a low, Strickland explains the number of families in need continues to climb.

"Right now, we are doing an average of 10 appointments a day, so we are doing 50 households of various sizes every week. So numbers have gone up quite a bit in the last six months."

Donations don't have to be made by the crateful either, Strickland simply asks community members to consider them when out grocery shopping.

"If you're out grocery shopping, and you see a good sale, think of us, then you can drop it off with either myself at the family services, or at the store, or even the overhead door at the back, you can ring the doorbell, and somebody will come out and help you."

Smaller sizes of products are preferred, as it allows them to more easily distribute items and give more to different households.

Any questions can be directed to the Salvation Army by calling 306-842-2280 or dropping by their location. Strickland says they're always happy to hear from people.
