The Town of Okotoks is advising residents of a water main repair today (June 11), as part of the Downtown Improvement Project.

Residents on Poplar Avenue in the immediate area affected by the underground utility construction work at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and North Railway Street could experience water interruptions between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

To prepare for the water interruption, residents in the affected area can fill bathtub(s) with water and keep a bucket of water in the bathroom to help with toilet flushing.

Throughout the day, residents can continue to test their cold water tap to see if water is available in their homes again.

Once pressure and water services are restored, residents are asked to follow these steps:

  • Run the cold water tap for at least five minutes to ensure the water runs clear before using any other water device.

  • Do not run the hot water tap until you have completed the first step to avoid drawing impurities into your hot water tank.

  • If you experience excessive discolouration or air in the water that does not clear after running your tap for at least 20 minutes, call Water Services at 403-938-7920.
