A quick flash and brief fire caused by a hydro line brought out the Austin Fire Department on Tuesday night in the Municipality of North Norfolk.

Firefighters responded to the incident around 7:45 p.m. on June 10, near the intersection of Road 60N and 72W.

After arriving on scene, crews spoke with the 911 caller who initially reported the incident.

“They saw a bright flash and the property had lost power, along with a brief fire,” notes the Austin Fire Department in a social media post.

No active flames when crews arrive

Firefighters inspected nearby hydro poles and lines and found what appeared to be the likely source of the trouble.

“A tree branch was found slightly charred resting against a line,” adds the department.

Crews determined there was no fire upon arrival and no further threat in the area.

Manitoba Hydro takes over

Once the area was declared safe, the file was handed off to hydro officials for repair.

“The scene was deemed safe to leave for Manitoba Hydro to fix the issue,” remarks the department.

No injuries or damage beyond the temporary outage have been reported.
