Last week, the Carstairs Fire Department shared that they have added a new Rapid Attack Vehicle to their fleet.
Jordan Schaffer, the Fire Chief for the Carstairs Fire Department, is excited to have this wildland unit.
"We started about 18 months ago on this build for this truck, it's called the Bush Buggy, Unit 140. It went out for tender to multiple suppliers, and after an extensive review of suppliers. A company called Rocky Mountain Phoenix, out of Red Deer, was awarded the contract. "
He explained the truck will be and has already been used for wildland operations.
"It will be used for grass fires, field fires, brush fires, things like that. We will also deploy it to structure fires for structural protection of other buildings. It'll sit back and make sure that the fire doesn't take off into the grass and protect other buildings."
Carstairs wasn't the only fire department to get a Rapid Attack Vehicle, as Didsbury Fire Department also received one.
According to Schaffer, the buggy has already been used for four calls as of earlier this week.
"The first call. It didn't even have its radio installed. The radio installer was driving to the fire hall when the call came in."
He shared that the fire department is thankful for Mountain View County, as they were the ones who paid for the whole purchase of the vehicle.
The vehicle that this new truck is replacing only carried 180 gallons of water, while this new one carries 400.
