The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Draft unfolded on Tuesday, and the Humboldt Broncos were one of the quieter teams of the day. The Broncos didn’t hold a first round selection in both the 2009-born draft and the 2010-born draft after sending both picks to the Nipawin Hawks.

With their only selection of the 2010-born Draft, the Broncos picked forward Ty Nochowny. The Saskatoon product spent most of last season with the U15 AA Saskatoon Generals where he had 47 points (27G-20A) in 27 games. He also played in a pair of games with the U18 AA Saskatoon Riverkings. He is slated to spend the upcoming season with the Saskatoon Contacts of the Sask 18U AAA Hockey League.

Prior to their first selection in the 2009-born Draft, the Broncos made a move up the draft board as they acquired the 15th overall selection of the 2009-born draft from the Estevan Bruins in exchange for the 18th and 30th overall selections.

With their first pick in the 2009-born draft (15th overall), the Broncos selected forward Preston Hoppe. A local product (Fulda), Hoppe spent the past season with the Tisdale Trojans of the U18 Sask AAA Hockey League where he had 15 points (6G-9A) in 43 games. The prior season with the 15U AA Humboldt Broncos, Hoppe collected 75 points (43G-32A) in 28 games. He was selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the sixth round (115th overall) of the 2024 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft.

Then the Broncos selected Forward Cruz Harrison with the 22nd pick. From Maidstone, Harrison was with the Warman Wildcats of the 18U Sask AAA Hockey League appearing in five games and picked up one goal. He spent most of the season with the U16 AA Martensville Marauders where he had 50 points (17G-33A) in 30 games.

Since Humboldt traded their third-round pick (30th overall) to Estevan earlier in the day, they didn’t select until the fourth round when they picked Lumsden’s Kayson Anderson. Last season, the defenceman was with the 18U Sask AAA Hockey League’s Estevan Bears where he had 13 points (1G-12A).

With their final selection, the Broncos picked up Aiden Harman of Meadow Lake. Last year, the defenceman was with the U18 Lloydminster Athletics of the Junior Prospects Hockey League and had 22 points (7G-15A) in 23 games.

Humboldt elected to pass on their sixth-round selection wrapping up their day.

Annaheim’s Colton Vedress was selected by the La Ronge Ice Wolves with the fourth overall selection in the 2009-born Draft. Last year with the U18 AA Humboldt Broncos, the defenceman had 20 points (4G-16A) in 32 games. He has also played seven games with the Warman Wildcats of the U18 Sask AAA Hockey League and is scheduled to spend the upcoming season in Warman.

La Ronge also selected Beau Anholt from Naicam with the 22nd selection in the 2010-born Draft. Anholt played in 29 games with the 15U AA Warman Wildcats last year and collected 62 points (22G-40A). He appeared in one game with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Sask 18U AAA Hockey League where he's slated to play this upcoming year.
