This week is a busy one for the 153 students at Weyburn Comprehensive School who will be graduating this weekend. While the ceremony itself will be taking place on Saturday, the work that goes into the day has been underway for a number of weeks, and there is still preparation happening in the next few days.

The students who will be taking part in the parade will be working on their floats at the Exhibition grounds on Wednesday night and Thursday night. The parade, which started during the COVID-19 pandemic, has quickly become a favourite part of the day not only for the students but for the graduates as well.

Friday night, the graduates will walk through the graduation ceremony with the rehearsal. All students must attend the ceremony, or they won’t be able to take part in the ceremony on Saturday.

For the big day, Crescent Point Place will be decorated for the event thanks to the Grade 11 students at WCS, along with parents.

The day will begin with the graduation ceremony, which takes place at 10:30. The doors will open for the ceremony at 9:45 a.m., and all guests are to be in their seats for the ceremony by 10:15 a.m.

Following the ceremony, the graduates will then prepare for the gala and Grand March. The doors will re-open at Crescent Point Place at 1:30 p.m., with floor seating for grads and escorts only. The Grand March will take place at 2 p.m. and include the introduction of the graduates and speeches to the parents, the boys, and the girls.

After the Grand March, the students will then get lined up for the parade, which will go from the Exhibition grounds east on Prairie Avenue, turning down 7th Street to Bison Avenue, then returning west along Bison to Government Road. They will then take Coteau Avenue East back to the fairgrounds.
