Southwest residents, nature enthusiasts, and more can tune in to a duo of free educational webinars taking place next week, highlighting different aspects of the prairies during Native Prairie Appreciation Week.
The Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan's Native Speaker Series will feature a webinar on Monday delving into urban wildlife in prairie cities, while a Tuesday webinar will showcase the connection between wildlife, geology, and more.
Carolyn Gaudet, manager of the Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Action Plan, shared that the first webinar is set to run over noon hour with Dr. Ryan Fisher from the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and Jordan Rustad with the University of Regina.
"This [webinar highlights] the results of Jordan's master's project with the University of Regina and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum," she said. "So they used automated recording units and trail cameras to understand how birds and mammals respond to urbanization in Regina."
Tuesday's webinar will feature authour and geologist, Dr. Dale Leckie, and will also take place at noon.
"He'll talk about how local geology has shaped the habitats of a variety of animals," Gaudet said. "He'll also talk about his recent books that encourage readers to explore the natural landscape."
Anyone interested can register for free through the organization's website or check out the recorded stream on the SK PCAP YouTube channel.
