Portage la Prairie RCMP report an ongoing surge in vehicle break-ins across the community. Several vehicles are having windows smashed each week as suspects search for valuables to steal.

This wave of thefts is causing frustration and extra costs for local residents, who now face the consequences of these crimes.

The RCMP encourage residents to get to know their neighbours and keep an eye out for each other to help curb the problem.

“If people have cameras pointing at the streets, maybe review them and talk to your neighbours to see if any crime was committed that night in the area,” the RCMP notes.

The police also advise people to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles or unlocked in their yards, reducing opportunities for theft.

RCMP stress the importance of reporting anything suspicious right away.

Through community awareness and cooperation, police hope to reduce the number of break-ins and keep Portage la Prairie safer.
