Canada Post's new set of stamps honouring Indigenous leaders will be revealed at a series of events next week, including one for a local Elder.

This is the fourth set of Canada Post's Indigenous Leaders multi-year stamp series, which began in 2022, and highlights the contributions of modern-day First Nations, Inuit, and Métis leaders who dedicated their lives to preserving their culture and improving the quality of life for Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

Elder and Knowledge Keeper Bruce Starlight from Tsúut'ínà Nation is being immortalized on one of these stamps for his over five decades of work to save his language and culture from extinction.

He also served as a language commissioner for his community and was among the founders of the Tsúut'ínà Gunáhà Násʔághà, which is an institute dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of his language.

Starlight's stamp will be unveiled at an event honouring him on Thursday, June 19 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex and Jim Starlight Centre in Tsuut'ina Nation.

Julia Haogak Ogina and Sophie McDougall are also being immortalized on stamps, and their unveiling celebrations on June 13 and 17, respectively.

The new stamp will be available for sale on the Canada Post website and at select postal outlets across the country, starting on June 20, which is a day before National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.
