The Estevan Police Service responded to a series of calls on June 11 involving suspicious activity, theft, erratic driving, and trespassing concerns.

Officers were first called about a suspicious individual parked in front of a residence. The vehicle left before police arrived, and no further concerns were noted.

Later, staff at a local restaurant reported a theft involving a customer’s cellphone, which had been taken while the customer briefly stepped away from their table. Surveillance footage helped officers identify a 44-year-old Estevan man, who was located nearby and charged with theft. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in July. The phone was recovered and returned to its owner.

Police also received a report of a dark-coloured SUV driving erratically in the parking lot behind Spruce Ridge School. The vehicle was seen leaving the area at high speed, heading north out of town. Officers were unable to locate it.

A bicycle theft was also reported. A victim statement was taken and the investigation is ongoing.

Later in the day, officers responded to a downtown business where an unwanted individual was reported on the premises. The person was believed to have been previously banned for unruly behaviour, but police determined it was not the same individual. No charges were laid.

In an eastside neighbourhood, police received several calls about a suspicious vehicle. A description and license plate were provided, and officers located the vehicle. After investigation, it was determined that no criminal activity had taken place.

EPS also issued a reminder to the public about the dangers of entering vacant or abandoned buildings. These structures are often boarded up to prevent trespassing and protect public safety. Police warn that such buildings may be structurally unsafe or contain hazardous materials, and entering them not only poses risks to those inside but also to responding officers.

The public is urged to stay clear of these properties and report any suspicious activity.
