On Tuesday, the City of Airdrie held a meeting with Demetrios Nicolaides, the Minister of Education and Childcare.

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown shared that it is always great to have a meeting with a provincial minister.

"We're welcoming 800 students on average, students every year, to our system. Our desired resolution is that the government continues to work with high-growth municipalities like Airdrie."

Brown also shared that the city thanked Nicolaides for recent renovation work on schools within Airdrie like St. Martin de Porres High School and several other schools that received construction funding to be built soon.

Yesterday it was shared by Airdrie East MLA Angela Pitt that Airdrie will be getting more modular classrooms than the previous five announced in April. Pitt hopes more details will be released soon.

He also shared that while they had the minister listening, the city took time to advocate for other projects that the city needs help with.

"We've got good relations with all the ministries. There are just a significant number of issues that come with great growth. The Alberta government, over the last number of years, has been publicly wanting people to move to Alberta because of the Alberta advantage, and Airdrie has been very accommodating."

Brown explained Airdrie has been building houses at a rapid pace, but with that comes pressures on the recreation centers and pressures on water and wastewater lines.

"We're just thrilled that we have that opportunity to take 20 minutes of his time and remind him of the importance of high-growth municipalities like Airdrie."

Also on Tuesday, Mayor Brown gave his State of the City address, showcasing the city's growth and what they are working on.
