Earlier today, Airdrie East Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Angela Pitt announced that more modular classrooms are coming to Airdrie.
While details are limited as of right now, she is excited to see Airdrie get the support it needs.
"I just chatted with the minister (of education) and he confirmed that he got approval from Treasury Board to fast-track additional modulars for Airdrie schools to help alleviate this immediate emergent problem that we're seeing in our schools coming this fall."
Pitt explained she will have more news in the coming days in terms of the number of modulars, timelines of when they will be ready and which schools they will be going to. She did share that these modulars are not the ones announced in April, but more for Airdrie.
"As the MLA of Airdrie, I find it unacceptable that we're in these space crunches. I'm frustrated with the federal government having an unmanaged immigration policy and then leaving it to the provinces to scramble to sort out a proper education for Alberta students."
According to RVS, if approved, four of those units would be placed at Nose Creek Elementary School in Airdrie, reducing utilization of the school from 118 per cent to 101 per cent for 2025/26.
"Thank you to all of the concerned parents who have reached out. I'm sharing your concerns. Thank you for your patience on this issue," shared Pitt.
She concluded by saying today is a good day, as this is a wonderful announcement for Airdrie.
