Swift Current is far from the fire, but the wish to help is close.

In order to aid in the efforts both combatting the northern Saskatchewan wildfires and in helping those who have been affected, Swift Current is ready to not only send aid but also encourage those who need a place to stay to make use of the availability in the city.

Swift Current Mayor, Al Bridal, confirmed that the Swift Current Fire Department still has plans to send equipment up north to aid in the firefighting relief efforts.

"Fire Chief Hunter has been in contact with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency daily, and the Fire Department is on standby to send out their rehabilitation unit, which is a vehicle set up to provide aid to frontline workers," said Bridal.

Bridal also confirmed at least two members will be sent if a request for additional firefighters arrives.

As far as families displaced by the wildfires, the City has heard reports that a few have been staying in Swift Current.

"The City of Swift Current will be welcoming anyone who has voluntarily evacuated here, and we hope that they would find our community a comfort to them," said Bridal. "We at the municipal level have not currently been briefed about any mandatory evacuations being routed to our city through our Emergency Management."

Bridal encourages people with family who would like them routed to Swift Current to contact the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, and to work with them on arrangements.

"So that there is order, planning, and proper support in place," said Bridal. "The City of Swift Current sends out our best to everyone affected by the wildfire situations in Saskatchean, and we hope for rain to knock the fires out soon."
