There are tons of ways to talk to different people. It could be on the phone, could be through text message or social media chats. Or there's even the good 'ol fashioned communicating face to face with someone. It seems as though this form is a bit of a lost art.

This past Thursday, we held our first Taste of Summer Community BBQ right out front at the Innovation Center. Aside from the great purpose behind the BBQ (raising money for SaskAbilities) one of the other fantastic aspects to it, was communication. Pure and simple talking with your neighbors, friends and listeners.

I spent the majority of my time at the BBQ chatting with listeners and friends alike. Everything under the sun was discussed from the style of watch I was wearing, how longer we could wait for rain before the crops took a turn, to the comedy show at the Lyric a few weeks ago. And everything in between. It was wonderful.

Calling a friend or family member, or texting a buddy is great, don't get me wrong. The way technology has allowed us to stay in communication with the people who matter the most to us is a blessing. But nothing beats sitting down with friends you've only met once, strangers you're just being introduced to or someone you've known for 20 years and just discussing life. In many cases you can see so much all while speaking so little. You can't do that in a text message, or a DM. You can't see a pure facial expression. It's just different.

I know, if given the choice to have a conversation with someone on the phone, in a text or in person, I will pick in person 12 times out of 10. It's a way of connecting with people I'm glad I have and wouldn't trade no matter what technology comes out with next.
