The Town of Ponoka and the Ponoka Arts, Recreation and Culture Society (PARCS) are announcing the grand opening celebration of Ponoka’s new 18-hole disc golf course on Saturday, June 14.

The opening event will run from 12 to 2 p.m. at Riverside Rotary Park and will include:

  • a free barbecue
  • tips and tricks on how to play disc golf
  • a ribbon-cutting ceremony
  • Coffee with Council

Disc golf, often described as a blend of traditional golf and frisbee, has gained popularity for its accessibility, low cost and inclusive nature due to the sport’s minimal equipment requirements.

“Thanks to the generous $15,000 donation from PARCS, the year-round disc golf course will enrich Ponoka for years to come. We anticipate this new recreational amenity will attract visitors to Ponoka, boosting community pride and tourism,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson.

The disc golf course will welcome all ages and skill levels.

“We are very excited to be opening this new disc golf course to the community. The course will be a space for casual play and organized events, offering a unique recreation opportunity and a place for people to connect,” said Amanda Henderson-Kada, board chair for PARCS.

“It’s a sport that’s easy to learn yet challenging to master. The game appeals to everyone, from families looking for outdoor fun to avid enthusiasts seeking a competitive edge,” said Henderson-Kada.

The planned course at Riverside Rotary Park will take advantage of Ponoka’s natural landscape, providing a scenic and engaging experience for players.

Coffee with Council will also be held during the opening celebration, where citizens can provide their thoughts and ideas on the 2026 Town of Ponoka budget by filling out a Citizen Input Survey.
