The most common association that people tend to have when they think of their local library is books.
Novels, series, graphic novels and comics; many of these stories that have been put to print have seen translations hit the big screen at some point or another. What if there were a club in which the entire focus was to read a book, and then watch the film that was inspired by that story?
That’s the focus of Bookflix: the newest book club to grace the doors of the South Central Regional Library Winkler location.

Britany Morgan, Winkler library clerk as well as programmer for South Central Regional Library, says that the idea for Bookflix was inspired by the work of one of her coworkers.
“I was sitting at my desk one day thinking about new clubs... and I was looking at one of my coworkers' displays where they had compared movies with the books,” she said, “How fun would it be to make that a club?”
Every third Thursday of the month, the Bookflix club will be getting together to watch the movie to whichever book has been selected previously. The first book this go around: the 2008 cultural phenomenon, Twilight.
“I was a huge fan of ‘Twilight’ in high school, so I’ve gone through the series seven or eight times myself, so I was super excited to introduce that for the first month. In July we’re doing ‘It Ends With Us’, and in August, we’ll be doing ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’.”
The majority of the books selected, according to Morgan, will be in the young adult and adult sections, to appeal to younger readers, or perhaps people just getting back into reading.

For those looking to sign up, Morgan says they can send them an email, or simply walk into the library and speak with someone. Something that Morgan says is always welcome.
And, if people are looking to weigh in on what book comes next for Bookflix, Morgan shares, “We absolutely accept recommendations... Send us an email, or even just give us a call at the library.”
