Father’s Day got an extra dose of community spirit this year thanks to a special giveaway hosted by the Morning Show teams on The Eagle 93.5, Country 88, and CFAM 950. In partnership with MacMor Industries in Winkler, listeners were invited to call or text in and share what makes their dad so awesome—for a chance to win a Milwaukee M18 FUEL™ 7-1/4" Circular Saw Kit.
The response? Heartfelt stories, funny memories, and touching tributes poured in from across the Pembina Valley.
Brad and Darcy: More than just father and son
Among the entries were two stand-out submissions that earned their dads a brand-new circular saw just in time for Father's Day. Brad Dueck called in to talk about his dad, Darcy Dueck, sharing memories that perfectly captured their close bond.
“He taught me everything I know from the age of 10 up,” Brad shared. “We shingled the roof together, he taught me to drive tractors, trucks, and 4-wheelers. I just got my Class 1, and he started me on that path when I was young.”
Brad’s mix of appreciation and humor stood out, especially when he recalled a moment involving a lawn mower, a new car, and a misjudged stop.
“One time he was chasing me around the yard with a lawn mower… I thought I’d be safe standing in front of my mom’s new car. But it had just been switched from clutch to hydrostatic, and he pinned me right up against it!”
It’s a story the family won’t forget—and one that helped Darcy walk away with a new power tool for the garage.
Selena and Tony: A daughter’s love for her hardworking dad
Ten-year-old Selena Penner melted hearts when she called in to nominate her dad, Tony Penner.
“He’s a really hard worker,” she told us. “He works at the bean factory and drives truck.” When asked what makes him so special, Selena replied simply, “He really loves me and everything… and he gets me a lot of stuff, some of it pretty expensive.”
Her sincerity, humor, and deep admiration for her dad earned Tony the second circular saw.
“She couldn’t contain herself,” Tony said when he heard the news. “She told me all about it when I got home. It’s amazing. I really enjoy doing things with her—fishing, walking the dogs, having bonfires. It’s how we bond.”
While Selena might be a few years away from handling power tools, Tony said she’s already getting involved.
“I let her use my impact driver now and then. She helps me out in the garage—it’s fun.”
Celebrating the everyday heroes in our lives
The contest not only gave two lucky dads a new tool to tinker with, but also gave families the chance to publicly share just how much their dads mean to them. And for the radio hosts involved, it was a reminder of how local radio continues to connect and celebrate community in meaningful ways.
So whether it’s chasing kids on a lawn mower or driving truck to provide for the family, the dads of the Pembina Valley are being celebrated—and now a couple of them have a new “toy” to play with in the garage.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at The Eagle 93.5, Country 88, CFAM 950 and PembinaValleyOnline.com!
