Southwest families, community members, and more can head out to support a local youth shelter this weekend with a vibrant run, literally and figuratively.
The ninth annual run to support SouthWest YES' Dorie's House in Swift Current is set to take place this Saturday, kicking off with a shower of electrifying colours for the third time at the Kinetic Exhibition Park.
Kayla Myers, run coordinator for Dorie's House 5K Colour Run, shared that in-person registration opens at 9:30 a.m., while the colour blast is set for 10:55 a.m., and the run begins at 11:00 a.m.
"We've opened it up to all abilities and all choices of transportation," said Myers. "You're able to come bike, bring strollers, wagons, rollerbladers, scooters, whichever you choose, you are welcome to come participate.
"It's also important to know that if five kilometres isn't something you really want to complete, if you want to do one kilometre or two kilometres, you're welcome to come and turn around at those markers."
She highlighted that nearly 200 participants are currently signed up to take part in the fundraiser, which requires roughly 25 volunteers to run and helps fund services at Dorie's House.
Everyone who registers or volunteers for Dorie's House 5K Colour Run will be entered into the prize barrel draw, featuring up to $10,000 worth of prizes.
"For every $100 you bring in in pledges or donations, up to a maximum of $300, you're name will be entered in for extra draws in the prize barrel," Myers added.
Registration is $25 per person, and pre-registration is live until 7:00 p.m. Friday, and folks can register by heading to Dorie's House on Facebook or checking out the event through Race Roster.
