In a statement this morning, the Town of Cochrane has confirmed YMCA Calgary has formally withdrawn from the Request for Proposals (RFP) process to manage local recreation facilities.
Town officials say they respect the YMCA’s decision and expressed appreciation for the professionalism the organization showed throughout discussions.
“Enhancing service delivery, ensuring financial sustainability, and addressing the needs of our growing population are the foundation of the town’s and Rocky View County’s RFP process,” said Town CAO Mike Derricott. “Looking forward, these foundations remain our priority.”
The town also thanked residents for their engagement and feedback throughout the process.
“The process solidified how valuable our rec centre is to our community – this has never been in question,” said Mayor Jeff Genung. “We continue to care deeply about the future of recreation in Cochrane. We’ve heard loud and clear from user groups — they need more. From my perspective, this process was always about finding ways to provide that for them, not about tearing down what we have.”
Cochrane administration stated it will continue to work with the SLS Centre board, Rocky View County, and town council to explore next steps.
