Father’s Day weekend is filled with great events for your whole family in Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan.
Here’s just a few of the big events going on this weekend:
Hazlet Sports Days
The beautiful community of Hazlet is celebrating their sports days this weekend. Events for Saturday include a pancake breakfast, the Lions’ Parade and a kids’ carnival, with a Father’s Day supper wrapping up the weekend at Hazlet Regional Park.
Leader Wild West Daze
Wild West Daze continues in Leader on Saturday with the tourism breakfast at the Community Centre starting at 8:30 a.m. and the “Fields of Dreams” parade at 10:00. There is also a slo-pitch tournament, bouncy castles, a dance on Saturday night and the antique tractor pull at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Dorie’s House Colour Run
The ninth annual Colour Run fundraiser for Dorie’s House starts from Kinetic Exhibition Park on Saturday morning. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with the colour blast set for 10:55 and the run starting at 11:00, on a five-kilometre route along the Chinook Pathway.
Cruisin’ the 32
The fifth annual “Cruisin’ the 32” car show and cruise happens in Pennant on Saturday. The car show begins at 10:30 a.m. and then at 2:00 p.m., the cars will cruise along Highway 32 to Cabri before returning to Pennant. All the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Pennant Seniors Hall.
MyCityCare BBQ
MyCityCare Swift Current is hosting a barbecue fundraiser on Saturday from 11:00-2:00 at Canadian Tire in Swift Current. You can get a hamburger and a drink for $5.00 with the funds raised supporting the purchase of non-perishable food items for emergency hampers provided by MyCityCare.
Swift Current 57’s home game
The Swift Current 57’s continue a weekend set with the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. from Mitchell Field.
Doc’s Town opening day
Father’s Day marks the opening day of the summer season for Doc’s Town Heritage Village at Kinetic Exhibition Park. The heritage buildings will be open Sunday from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., and the Country Pleasures Tea Room will be serving banana splits and ice cream sundaes. The West Wing Art Gallery will also be open from 1:00-5:00 on Saturday and Sunday with the High School Art Show.
Doc’s Town will be open every Saturday and Sunday through the summer months, including all four days of Frontier Days June 25-28.
Swift Current soap box races
The traditional Father’s Day soap box races return on Sunday with 40 young drivers rolling their cars down the hill on Central Avenue North. Racing will start at 9:00 a.m. and there will be a food truck on site, along with a barbecue to support the Swift Current Soap Box Racing Association.
