Manitoba Agriculture is ramping up for their annual Field Day through the Westman Agricultural Diversification Organization (WADO) in Melita scheduled for Thursday, July 17th.
Applied Research Specialist, Scott Chalmers, says they're looking forward to sharing their test plot studies on a variety of crops and varieties.
"We're bringing back our touring buses for people to ride in comfort as we travel from field to field," he explains. "But we're looking forward to having a great day at this year's Field Day once again."
With an agronomist in residency at the University of Manitoba presenting on corn variety and weed trials, and Assiniboine College presenting on their bio-stimulants in soybeans project, Chalmers says it's important to bring the students out to an event like this to further their learning and presenting skills and share the knowledge they've found through their research projects.
"If you get the students out presenting, these are the people we're cultivating for our future," he says. "And that's always important, because they need the experience, they need to mingle with people who are established in the industry, and they can learn from that. And I think that's how you develop our youth, start them with some experience."
Chalmers says the day is all about learning, to share test trials studies and results with Manitoba producers here in the southwest corner of the province.
"I learn something every day in this industry or at a field day. You know, if you go to attend one," he adds. "And if we're lucky, you can see the results in the field. If the research is done right, you can actually kind of feel the results, you can see it with your own eyes in action. And that really puts some context into it when you have it that way."
Please listen to more with Scott Chalmers below as he shares more details on the July 17th WADO Field Day in the Melita area.
Please RSVP to secure your spot on the touring bus!
"We'll probably take registrations right up to the day of the event although we do have limited seating so get your name in there. We have seating up to about 105 people on two buses."
