This week, the forecast is showing the rain could strike at almost any time as a series of unsettled systems move into the southeast. That starts today, with a good chance of forecasts, with both overnight and daytime precipitation possible past Sunday.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke talks about the systems and what we should expect.

"Basically, kind of just dealing with the unsettled pattern. So it's just sort of weak troughing kind of throughout most of the prairies and some weak lows that are just kind of quickly passing by. The end result is a lot of days where you kind of have this chance of afternoon, evening showers, maybe a thunderstorm."

Luke says that while it's still far out, he expects next week to possibly morph into an even stronger rainy system.

While the system crawling through now is weaker, it still has the chance to gather strength and deliver some very rainy days.

"You might notice some heavy downpours, and there could be some thunderstorms with some of these as well. So, you know, there would be lightning to be worried about.  It's a little hard to tell right now, but we'd have to keep an eye on if any of the storms end up developing to be like severe as well. But for the most part, it kind of just looks like heavy rain showers, I would say."

Temperatures also shift this week as they rise above average by Thursday, before falling back down.

In some positive weather news, Luke says we're clear from any smoke rolling into the region, at least for a few days.

"I'm happy to say that at least through Wednesday morning, it's looking really good. As far as smoke is concerned, it looks like we're not really tracking any areas of smoke that should be coming back to Estevan at this point in time through Wednesday morning, at least."

Luke is also positive that the rest of the week will be smoke-free. He says that as long a people are able to avoid any storms overhead, it could be a great week for outdoor activities.
