The Weyburn Credit Union is getting ready to host the annual Community Barbecue next Thursday, June 26th, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m.

Marketing Coordinator Jasmine Kravanya said it's a free event, with live music from Switch and $76,000 being presented to 11 local not-for-profit organizations.

"Join us for a celebration full of food, fun, music, and meaningful community impact. Together we're giving back with over $76,000 in community fund cheques going to local organizations that uplift support and strengthen the community we all call home. It's our way of investing in the people and places that matter most, including you."

She emphasized this event is for the entire community.

"Whether you're our member or not, this is open to everyone. We just want everyone to come out and have a great time and just celebrate our community and these incredible organizations and what they're doing and just really watch us shine a highlight on them and give them some money."

The event, as always, will have plenty for the kids and just happens to fall on the last day of the school year.

"If you got some kiddos and you want them to burn off some steam, we do have Knox Hall, so we have free bounce houses. That's always a huge hit, and we're going to do temporary tattoos, but face painting, we're going to try this year, so you might see some really interesting designs, we're newbies, but we're excited to give it a try because we know how excited the kiddos get about that."

She said they'll also have lawn games and other activities, and depending on the heat, Fat Cat may also make an appearance.

Why make supper when this event will also include food?

"We're keeping the price at $5, so you can choose a hot dog or a burger, chips or a cookie this year that's new, and a drink all for 5 bucks," said Kravanya. "What a fun way to end the school year and kick off summer, just come out and celebrate community, bump into your neighbors and your friends, and just have an all-around great time."

Attendance increases each year for the free event, so, "Make sure to bring your lawn chairs because seating is quite limited, so unless you want to dance the entire time, which that's awesome, too, but you might wanna bring a lawn chair to sit down at. Who wants to cook supper on the last day of school? Come on down and dance and play games and get some delicious food."

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Weyburn Agricultural Society's Exhibition Hall.

"Just keep an eye on our Facebook page because rain or shine, the barbecue is on. We're hoping though our fingers are crossed that the weather is gonna be perfect."
