Much needed precipitation fell from the skies on Saturday throughout Saskatchewan, as it turns out the Humboldt area was in the centre of the storm activity.

Crawford Luke, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada said 10-20 mm of rain fell around Humboldt through the weekend, with most of the rainfall coming on Saturday.

Luke also said a tornado touched down earlier in the afternoon near Hepburn and they were able to confirm it based on photos and video taken by eyewitnesses.

He added that the same storm made its way through the Humboldt region, producing hail up to the size of a golf ball. As the storm made its way north, there were reports of a bunch of trees being snapped between Humboldt and Pilger, indicating there were strong winds that accompanied the storm.

Reports of other possible tornadoes and funnel clouds are currently being investigated, according to Luke.

Other regions in the province also experienced golf ball sized hail, Luke explains, including near Radisson. He added they’re still investigating possible tornadoes and funnels clouds throughout the province as the one near Hepburn is the only one that can confirm at this time.

Saturday’s rainfall was welcomed around the Humboldt region, and Luke says that more precipitation could be heading our way this week.

“As we get into next weekend, we might even have a shot at a more widespread rainfall, but that's that's potentially getting a little further away. So, we'll have to keep an eye on that forecast, but it's definitely looking like an unsettled week for sure.”

Luke added that if anyone is willing to share photos or reports to Environment Canada meteorologists, it would be appreciated as it would help them piece together the puzzle of weather activity.
