At approximately 10:50 a.m. on Monday, June 16, a member of the Lacombe Police Service conducting patrols observed a red 2004 Ford F-350 parked at the west end of Henderson Way in Lacombe.
As the officer turned around to investigate, the vehicle began to drive away.
A check of the license plate revealed the truck had been reported stolen out of Airdrie.
The vehicle was then seen turning westbound onto Highway 12 before proceeding northbound on Highway 2.
Lacombe police worked with nearby officers and members of the Ponoka RCMP to initiate a safe stop.
During these efforts, the suspect vehicle intentionally rammed a marked police vehicle before continuing northbound in the median of Highway 2.
Given the escalating risk to public safety, officers discontinued their attempts to stop the vehicle.
Shortly after, Alberta Sheriffs located the abandoned suspect vehicle further north in the median.
With assistance from RCMP K9 and drone support, Lacombe police tracked the suspect to a nearby rural property west of Highway 2.
The driver was found hiding and arrested without incident.
Kyle Robinson, 24, of Grimshaw was transported to Lacombe Police Service cells and held for a judicial interim release hearing.
He is facing multiple charges, including:
- Flight from peace officer
- Resist/obstruct peace officer
- Mischief over $5,000
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000
- Failure to stop after an accident
