Yesterday morning (June 16), Lacombe Police received a report from a resident who discovered that both his personal truck and his roommate’s work truck had been stolen from their home in the 5200 block of 49th Street.

The vehicles were last seen parked at approximately 10 p.m. the previous evening — one in the driveway and the other on the street in front of the home.

An investigation revealed that the suspect or suspects unlawfully entered the house through an unlocked door and stole multiple sets of keys left on a ledge using them to take both vehicles

A wallet, identification and other personal items were also reported stolen from inside one of the trucks.

One of the vehicles, a 2025 black GMC Sierra crew cab, was equipped with GPS tracking and tracked to Leduc. The registered owner notified police of the vehicle’s updated location.

Lacombe Police coordinated with Leduc RCMP, who conducted patrols in the area of Edmonton International Airport. The stolen work truck was later found unoccupied near a service station. Surveillance footage from the area helped police identify the suspect, who was subsequently arrested without incident.

John Knox, 50, of Red Deer, has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A judicial interim release hearing was held, and Knox is scheduled to appear in court on July 10, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc.

A 2019 black Chevrolet Silverado (Alberta licence plate BTH 6560) that was also stolen during the incident has not yet been located. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Lacombe Police Service thanks the public and partner agencies for their assistance and reminds residents to ensure their homes and vehicles are always locked and secured.
