Moose Jaw Co-op and SaskWater presented a cheque for $10,437.62 to the Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens’ Association as a result of this year’s Project Shine.
Throughout the month of May, customers at the Co-op food store, agro centre and all Co-op gas locations were asked for a $2 donation at the till. The Co-op and SaskWater each matched donations up to $2,500.
The funds will go toward kitchen renovations for the café at the Timothy Eaton Centre at 510 Main St. N.
"I'm amazed and happy and just so many different emotions, and it's something that this place has worked so hard for. The community showing their support — it’s just amazing,” said Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens’ Association executive director Tanya Legare.
Funds from Project Shine will go toward purchasing equipment such as coolers and under-counter freezers.
Michaela Turner, engagement and public relations specialist with Moose Jaw Co-op, said they were happy to partner with the Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens’ Association for this year’s Project Shine.
“When you are here at the facility and you see the café, you see the shape of the kitchen — it needs the work. It’s time, and we’re just really excited to raise awareness for the project and the centre itself,” she said.
Turner also thanked Co-op members and customers for generously donating to the cause.
SaskWater manager of corporate communications Courtney Mihalicz added they were excited to come on board with Project Shine once again this year.
“To be quite honest, it’s a no-brainer to partner with a group like Co-op. The work they do in the community is second to none, and with SaskWater’s head office here in Moose Jaw, anything we can do to show our support for the community where the majority of our employees live and work is important to us,” Mihalicz said.
