Rhineland Municipality has taken steps to repair significant frost boils that developed earlier this Spring along portions of Road 9 West.
"Over the past three years Rhineland has, with the help from a Federal grant, been upgrading the priority grain roads system," explained Reeve Don Wiebe. "This year, particularly on Road 9 West, numerous frost boils have reappeared. These frost boils are a real traffic hazard. In the short term, the frost boils have been filled with shale and are beginning to harden up. However, Council is keenly interested in doing something to prevent the reoccurrence of these frost boils, and so we're currently researching options that would hopefully eliminate this problem."
Sticking with rural roads in the municipality, speed limit changes may also be coming.
"The Policies Committee is drafting a speed reduction bylaw, particularly for the priority grain roads," he noted. "This bylaw would set the speed limit at 70 kilometers per hour, and will be considered by Council in the near future."
