Life Centre Church is gearing up for the first day of summer holidays for Weyburn's kids. The second annual School's Out for Summer Party will be held on Friday, June 27th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Teachers are still actually working, but that's the morning I remember as a kid, you woke up and it felt different," shared Pastor Matt Erickson.

He said the entirely free event is 'come-and-go' just to help celebrate the start of summer holidays.

"Stay as long or as short as you want. We had some people last year who came back two times. They came, they played, they ate, they went home for a bit, came back and played and ate some more. We'll have a barbecue with hot dogs all day long. We'll have snow cones available, drinks, bouncy castles, and games. We had some teenagers come just for the hot dogs and then they wandered on their way. So you don't have to have little kids to come on by and say hi."

Erickson said there won't be any preaching, but they will have invitations available for their Vacation Bible School being held August 11th to 15th, which will feature a QR code for registration.

"The School's Out for Summer is just a, 'let's celebrate as a community, have some fun to kind of kick off summer holidays', and everybody's situation is different, but I imagine for some on that Friday, the 27th, maybe it's grandma and grandpa, cause it's a Friday watching the kids, because mom and dad still have to work, and they're thinking, 'What can we do to make this day special?' Well, just bring them on by between 10 and 4, we'll feed you and let you let them bounce around, burn off some of that first day of summer energy. Whether it's a babysitter who needs something to do, feel free to just come on down for five minutes or stay for a couple hours if you want."

He said their church will have volunteers on hand to man the barbecue and the bouncy houses, and if there are quite a few smaller children, they'll relegate one of the bouncy houses for just the younger ones.

Just in case it happens to be raining that day, as it was during last year's original date, the event would be postponed to July 3rd.

"Hopefully the weather accommodates us this year."
