The sparks have settled—and Borderview Electric is your 2025 PV Cup champion.

Backed by the Florida Panthers in this year’s NHL playoffs, Borderview outlasted 15 other local businesses to claim the coveted PV Cup, a community playoff-style contest that paired each participant with a postseason team. With the Panthers advancing to the Stanley Cup Final, Borderview locked in the win—bringing the cup home to Winkler and lighting up the local business scene with pride.

Among their final competitors? D.A. Loewen Electric, also based in Winkler, whose Carolina Hurricanes fell to Florida in the Eastern Conference Final—capping off a friendly but fierce rivalry between two of the region’s top electrical firms.

“We compete on jobs, and yeah, we want to beat them,” said Eric Unrau, co-owner of Borderview. “But when we get it, we’re happy. When they get it, we’re happy for them. It’s a healthy competition.”

Asked if the relationship between the two companies mirrors the hard-fought-but-respectful tone of NHL rivalries, Unrau didn’t hesitate: “You shake hands and you have respect for the other guys. You win some, you lose some. Usually if one of us is doing good, it benefits both, right?”

The PV Cup was created to add a bit of hockey spirit—and a lot of fun—to the local business community. Each of the 16 participating businesses was randomly matched with an NHL playoff team, and as those teams dropped out, so did their business partners. But what started as a fun playoff pool quickly became something more: a celebration of camaraderie, community pride, and the people behind the logos.

Here’s a look at the 2025 PV Cup lineup:

As PV Cup champions, Borderview Electric wins a full year of bragging rights, a shiny Stanley Cup-style trophy to proudly display, and 150 free radio commercials. D.A. Loewen, the runner-up, also scores with 100 free commercials.

Following the win, Borderview owners Kevin Wall and Eric Unrau took part in a post-game-style interview—complete with tongue-in-cheek sports clichés and light-hearted celebration.

“It’s pretty exciting,” said Unrau. “It was a hard-fought series. We’ve been putting our best foot forward, trying our best—and here we are.”

Wall added, “We’re all a team. We can’t do it with just one person. The whole crew plays a part in this.”

Asked what made the difference, Unrau credited their people and their supporters: “It all comes down to the commitment from the team, the support from our customers. We’ve got a great customer base. Everybody works together toward a common goal.”

And as for how they plan to celebrate? “I think maybe we’ll have a company barbecue and show [the cup] off a bit,” said Wall, smiling. “Have a good time together.”

From friendly competition to heartfelt community moments, the PV Cup has showcased what makes the Pembina Valley shine—passion, connection, and a bit of good-natured trash talk along the way.

Congratulations to Borderview Electric—2025 PV Cup Champions!
