Construction on the new washroom facilities near the beach at Nickle Lake Regional Park is moving right along. Park Manager Darren Wheeler said they are hoping to have them open to the public by next weekend, with the adjacent canteen set to open next season.

"The doors are done, the walls are just about done, so now they've just got to start putting in the shower stalls and the toilets and stuff like that."

The work is being done by DSI Contracting, with epoxy floors and walls made from fiberglass panels. The courtyard will be clear of construction materials by the time the washrooms and the laundry room are open for the season.

In the meantime, he noted there will be an option for port-a-potties located close to the beach by this weekend.

"Just to help with a place for people to go change, and it's a little closer, and it's too far for some of the young kids to walk over to the other one," he noted.

He said so far the beach has been getting good reports, other than being a little muddy, but he hopes to see that dry up with some warmer weather this week.

Wheeler said the sports court has been poured and the fence is slated to go up this week, with painting set for early July.

With fundraising underway for the paddling pool and splash park they plan to build next summer, they're hosting Bingo Nights every Thursday throughout the summer from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Beer Gardens. The first one will take place this evening, and anyone is welcome to come out and enjoy the game.

"We've got our 50/50 [raffles], we did our first one last week and we had a jackpot of $849 given out within two days, so we'll start another one this Thursday as well."

For Canada Day, he said they'll be hosting their regular events such as the bike parade and campsite decorating contest, as well as the farmer's market and car show.

"There's lots of stuff coming up for Nickle Lake Days this year [August long weekend], and we're going to fill that sports court with foam and let everybody have a foam party. We've got two big cannons, so we're going to fill that pickleball court right full of foam, and the kids are going to have a blast."
