A Winnipeg male is dead following a crash on Tuesday afternoon in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on June 17, Oakbank RCMP responded to a fatal collision on Highway 44, at Road 35E.

Officers, along with Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department, responded immediately. Officers observed a SUV with some damage, off the road and on the grass upon arrival. An off-road vehicle (ORV) was on its side in the middle of the road in the westbound lane of Highway 44.

Through the investigation, it was revealed that the SUV was travelling west on Highway 44 when the ORV attempted to cross the road northbound from Road 35E, hitting the SUV on the front driver side.

The female driver of the SUV from Beausejour was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The two female passengers, also from Beausejour, were not injured. 

The 42-year-old male ORV driver from Winnipeg was pronounced dead on the scene. The 32-year-old male passenger of the ORV, from Winnipeg, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

Oakbank RCMP, along with the RCMP Forensic Collision deconstructionist, continue to investigate.
