The first Taste of Summer charity BBQ of the season fired up today at CARSTAR Hail-Otto, drawing a steady crowd and raising $715 in support of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

“It was fantastic,” said Lori Gervais, executive director of the foundation. “It’s always great to have community support and see people come out and come for some great BBQ, but also to support the MRI.”

In addition to the BBQ, the foundation also held its annual e-bike raffle draw at the event.

“It was pretty exciting. We had a local, Lori Lehman, win the draw, so she was pretty excited about that,” Gervais said. “And we want to thank the Estevan Market Mall, as always, for donating those bikes. It's a fantastic raffle.”

Gervais said the foundation continues to spread the word about its MRI fundraising campaign, and support from the community has been encouraging.

“We are continuing to bring awareness to the community that we're continuously fundraising for the MRI, which I hope by now I've tried to reach as many as I can, so we will continue to do that,” she said.

She noted that the Estevan Elks have a golf tournament coming up in July, and other businesses and individuals are stepping forward with offers of support.

“We still have all kinds of people reaching out with different events going on, or, you know, we're still talking to all kinds of businesses and individuals and trying to have people just show up and help out. And it's been overwhelming with all the support we've received.”

The Taste of Summer BBQ series is presented in partnership with Kingston Midstream.

“We really enjoy being out in the community and the opportunity to work with so many people,” said Kingston Midstream representative Jersey Long.
