Lacombe’s 49C Avenue is getting a major facelift this summer as part of the City’s capital works program.
The 49C Avenue Plaza project is designed to attract more foot traffic and provide community members and groups with a welcoming space to host events during the summer months.
The street is being converted into a one-way southbound route, featuring decorative string lighting along its length.
Sidewalks will be widened, and for added safety, flashing pedestrian lights and a bollard belt will be installed at 50 Avenue.
Parking along 49C Avenue is also being expanded, according to City engineering coordinator TJ Brown.
“As part of turning this road into a one-way street southbound and widening the sidewalks, we were actually able to turn these stalls from angle parking to 90-degree parking and extend the parking,” said Brown.
Eleven additional parking spots will be added, including two on 50 Avenue. The existing trees along 49C Avenue will remain in place.
Construction is ongoing, with project completion expected in September.
