The Wednesday night traffic lineup down Main Street in Muenster wasn’t just about the ball game across the way at James Korte Field. It was about picking up a baked to perfection potato, a plentiful passel of Caesar salad, and of course a healthy helping of fall of the bone and sumptuously seasoned pork ribs.
The Muenster Elks hosted its first drive-through smoked rib night in several years. The original event happened as a response to the pandemic restrictions and the cancelation of the annual spring steak supper. The work-around drive through rib supper allowed chefs to share their prepared meals in a safe and distanced manner.
The idea went over extremely well, allowing the Elks to continue generating funds that are so important to local community organizations and individuals.
So, the pit masters thought, why not do it again. This time the funds are bound for those evacuees impacted by northern forest fires in Saskatchewan. Some are returning to recover as best they can; others have yet to return home.
Stepping up to the plate to support the Elks were Olymel, who donated the ribs, Humboldt Co-op who donated other food items, and G & S Korte Farms who donated money to provide packaging and other supplies.
In the end, around 130 ready-to-go meals went out with all the proceeds heading to the Red Cross to be matched in value.
The smokers, the slicers and the salad dicers were out once again at the Muenster Community Hall and the Muenster Curling Rink for a great evening of summertime rib wrangling.
