The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation (WDHF) held their annual general meeting last night, outlining the success they’ve seen in the past year.

Board Chair for the foundation Jeff Hayward says the main highlight was the immense progress in the construction of the hospital, which is over 75 percent complete and is set to open next June.

“We've had successful fundraising. We've continued to receive donations and stuff to work towards equipment to be put into the new hospital. And then, of course, the construction being on track and moving forward at a great pace, scheduling an opening next June at this time.”

The focus heading into the upcoming year will be on equipment for the new hospital. Hayward says up-to-date equipment for the facility is a priority.

“We really want to continue securing additional financing to make sure we have the most up to date equipment in there. Of course, there'll be a lot of up-to-date equipment put into the new hospital. But our goal as a foundation will be to continue to raise money to make sure that that modern facility, has equipment.”

Progress was met with no concerns, according to Hayward, who says it's been a smooth process to date. He provides an overview of this progress, including raising enough funds to construct the facility, and the investment of $7.6 million into new equipment.

“The foundation represents the people of Weyburn and area, so, I want to thank them because without the people of this community, this project could not move forward. It's been a long, long road, but we're nearing the finish line here and we'll keep going once the new hospital opens.”
